We understand that cost can be a barrier to participation, so we offer several ways to help fund your ASB experience:

Payment Plans: Flexible payment options are available to spread out program costs over time. To set up a payment plan please email: asb.msu.finance@gmail.com

Scholarships: Various need-based and merit-based scholarships are available, including the Don Ausman Scholarship and the ASB Impact Scholarship.

Fundraising & Donations: Students can receive donations from friends, family, or community sponsors. ASB can provide resources and ideas to help you fundraise.

University Support: Some MSU departments and student organizations offer funding support for experiential learning opportunities.
Football Season Volunteer & Fundraising
Join the MSU police department in supporting traffic flow, parking, pedestrian crossing, and customer assistance before/after home games to fundraise for ASB! Each hour of service raises $12.48 for our organization, which can directly cover your ASB experience fees. In addition to fundraising, those who work sign in to kickoff can enter the game free of cost, and those who support outbound traffic will receive a free food voucher!​
Don Ausman Scholarship
Honoring a Legacy of Service
The Don Ausman Scholarship is dedicated to honoring the legacy of Don Ausman, a passionate advocate for community engagement and lifelong learning. This scholarship provides financial assistance to MSU students committed to service, leadership, and making a meaningful impact through Alternative Spartan Breaks (ASB). Awarded based on a student’s dedication to civic engagement and their ability to demonstrate a deep commitment to social issues, the scholarship supports participants in making a difference both during and beyond their ASB experience.
Alternative Spartan Breaks (ASB) Executive Board Awards
ASB offers a variety of awards to help make participation more accessible. Whether you’re looking to showcase your experience or highlight your leadership, there are multiple opportunities to receive an award. Awards are presented to a single recipient for each category.
ASB Impact Scholarship
6-9 Month Reflection Award
The ASB Impact Scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates the long-term impact of their ASB experience. Six to nine months after returning from their experience, applicants will submit a reflection detailing how their ASB experience influenced their academic, personal, and professional growth. The recipient will receive a $400 award to further support their continued engagement with the social issue explored during their AB experience.
