Bridges to Safety: Empowering Survivors & Community - OPEN

November 16-17

Join us for an impactful weekend dedicated to combating domestic and sexual violences, stalking and trafficking, and supporting survivors. This nonprofit organization works tirelessly to raise awareness, educate communities, and provide critical resources to those affected by trafficking and exploitation.

About the Organization: 

Founded in response to the urgent need for action against human trafficking, this nonprofit offers a range of essential services, including emergency shelter, advocacy, counseling, and job training for survivors. Its mission is to empower individuals through support and education while fostering community involvement to help eradicate human trafficking in all its forms. 

Trip Overview:

During this weekend Alternative Experience, you will engage in meaningful service projects aimed at supporting the organization’s mission. Activities may include organizing awareness campaigns, assisting in shelter operations, preparing educational materials, and participating in community outreach efforts. In addition to service, participants will have opportunities for reflection and discussions on the social justice issues surrounding human trafficking and the importance of community advocacy.

Spend a weekend making a meaningful impact with an organization dedicated to fighting poverty, homelessness, and food insecurity through a variety of programs focused on housing, job training, health care, and food provision for underserved populations.

During this weekend Alternative Experience, you will work directly on a variety of impactful projects. These might include preparing and serving meals, assisting with the Tiny Homes initiative (building homes for low-income individuals), working in recycling programs, or engaging in community beautification efforts. Additionally, you'll have the chance to learn about the systemic challenges facing the community and reflect on ways to be an advocate for social justice.

With over 1.2 million volunteer hours invested and more than 300 homes restored, this nonprofit is committed to rebuilding neighborhoods through initiatives like demolishing vacant houses, renovating abandoned buildings, planting urban gardens, and creating safe, clean spaces for families. During this weekend Alternative Experience, you’ll work alongside community members, local leaders, and fellow students to contribute to ongoing neighborhood revitalization projects. Tasks may include clearing debris, painting, gardening, and other hands-on activities that make a tangible difference. In addition to service, you’ll engage in reflection activities to deepen your understanding of urban revitalization and the social justice issues that affect communities.
