FAQs

What is the cost of an Alternative Spring Break?

We are currently working out the trip budgets for Alternative Spring Break 2010. However, as a guide here are the average prices from last year:

Domestic Driving: $450-550
Domestic Flying (San Francisco)- $950
International Flying- $1100-1350

Please check “Current Trips” for updated trip budgets.

What does this price include?

The cost includes transportation, lodging, most meals and travel insurance.

Are there fundraising opportunities available?

Yes, it is our goal to encourage fundraising for each individual trip. Site leaders are required to host at least one fundraiser prior to spring break. The Alternative Spring Break program also hosts program-wide fundraisers to assist in lowering trip costs.

When can I apply?

Applications will be available on the website beginning October 1. All applications are due by Friday, October 30th.

Participants are selected based on a rolling-admissions application process. The sooner you return your application, the better.

How does the application process work?

The application requests a list of three site choices with an explanation as to why you would like to be placed on these specific Alternative Breaks. Based on the date of submission and qualification of the participant, individuals will be placed on one of our several sites. Preference will be given to those who return their application early. You will be notified within the first week of November.

If I reject my placement or am not placed on an Alternative Spring Break, will the $100 deposit be refunded?

Yes, you will receive a full refund if you do not accept the site you have been assigned or you are not placed on an Alternative Spring Break.

If something comes up and I am unable to participate with Alternative Spring Break, after accepting my position, can I still receive a refund of the $100 deposit?

Yes, depending on the date you inform the Alternative Spring Break program – you will be entitled to a refund. However, we emphasize that this is dependent on when you inform us or the severity of the situation. All decisions made by the Alternative Spring Break leadership team are final.
