Service Description: One of our more hands-on sites, participants will work with Mountain Housing Opportunities in Asheville, a private non-profit working to build and improve homes, neighborhoods and communities for people of limited resources. Project will include constructing wheelchair accessible ramps and porches. In the past, participants have helped MHO to build a handicap accessible porch and ramp for an elderly woman who was confined to a wheelchair.

Description of Service: CATRA provides over 3900 riding sessions for children and adults with disabilities every year. Volunteers will work with the care of the horses used and will have the opportunity to interact with those receiving services.

Volunteers: 12 Volunteers
Service Description: Participants will experience a variety of volunteer experiences by spending their time visiting with elders at a convent, teaching English at a children’s school, assisting workers in a disabled home, and assisting with various maintenance projects at each agency. Past participants who have volunteered at one particular site have been involved with a number of different volunteer experiences and, like most sites, have walked away changed saying the trip was the best of their life.
